September 8 - 12

Learning Intentions:

We had a fantastic time at the community garden! The students were amazed to see how much the garden had grown and changed since spring, when we planted it. Everyone had the opportunity to learn how to collect produce and harvest vegetables and herbs carefully. While at the garden, the students also enjoyed listening to a reading of the story Stone Soup. Thank you to all the grown-ups who supported our time at the garden, from start to finish. We greatly appreciate your help. 
On Wednesday, the students put their learning into action by making Stone Soup. They followed instructions safely while preparing the vegetables, and they enjoyed tasting their creation. Sharing the meal together gave them a wonderful chance to visit with peers and build community. 

Learning Intention: 
I can notice and describe repeating patterns. 
I can create patterns using various materials. 
I can extend patterns by predicting what comes next. 

In Math, the students began exploring repeating patterns. Through games, centers, and puzzles, they practiced noticing patterns all around them. The students worked with colours, shapes, and objects to identify patterns, create their own, and extend patterns made by others. You can support this learning by exploring patterns in everyday life with your child: 
Snack Patterns: Arrange crackers, grapes, and cheese cubes in a repeating pattern. Ask your child to continue the pattern or create their own. 
Clothing Patterns: Notice stripes, polka dots, or plaid on clothing. Ask, “What kind of pattern do you see?” 
Movement Patterns: Try clapping, stomping, and snapping in a repeating order. Challenge your child to copy and extend it! 
Nature Walk: Look for patterns in leaves, flowers, or fences. Take pictures or draw what you see. 

Spelling:
On Fridays, your child will bring home a weekly spelling list for you to practice with them at home. They will have a spelling test on the words the following Friday. Please practice these words with your child at home to support their development of reading and writing skills. 

Snacks: 
We are helping the children learn the difference between snacks and lunch foods, as many are eating their lunch during the morning snack time and then have nothing left for lunch. To help with this, please: 
- Pack snacks separately from lunch so they are easier to identify. 
- Include a small afternoon snack, as many students are hungry mid-afternoon. 
These small steps will help maintain steady energy levels throughout the day.
